This will mark the launch of JIVE: Jewish Innovative Voices & Experiences led by producer Ronny Michael Greenberg, the cantor of Sherith Israel & extraordinary versatile baritone Simon Barrad, internationally acclaimed countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen and the stunning violinist Elizabeth Castro Greenberg. Together they bring together the themes of freedom, bondage, and resilience through new perspectives, new works and creative arrangements representing the rich and diverse Jewish musical traditions.

The program features music from the Prince of Egypt, and by Simon & Garfunkel, Gerald Cohen, Samuel Barber, Robert Owens, Tom Cipullo, Ernest Bloch, and Yiddish songs, Jazz, Cabaret and Operetta composed by Jews who were imprisoned during the Holocaust such as Viktor Ullmann, Ilse Weber and Joseph Beer.

After its successful premiere at the Kahilu Theater in 2023, we are thrilled to be coming back and bringing this special showcase to O'ahu in the Honolulu Room of the Sheraton Waikiki on Thursday January 18, 6pm! This year’s stunning talent line up includes mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz, tenor Moisés Salazár, bass-baritone Samson Setu, soprano Maria Valdes, and producer/pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg.

Program highlights include The King Kamehameha/Fledermaus Waltz arranged by Ronny Michael Greenberg, Keola Beamer's Honolulu City Lights alongside William Bolcom's New York Lights, Shinpei Nakayama and Isamu Yoshiiby's Gondola No Uta, Rossini’s Quartet “La Passeggiata”, and Autumn Moon on a Calm Lake by Lü Wencheng to name a few.

Pene Pati and Ronny Michael Greenberg have shared a deep artistic bond for many years, and they are thrilled to get together once again for this special Polynesian-inspired holiday concert. Special guest Francesco Spagnolo, Curator of The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life at UC Berkeley and Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of Music and the Center for Jewish Studies, will be joining us to present a very special set of songs from the Jewish Italian tradition. These include music by Renaissance Jewish Italian composer Salamone Rossi, an iconic prayer from Sukkot as performed in northern Italian synagogues transcribed by Francesco himself, and a Rossini tarantella arranged with a fun "Rosh Hashanah"twist!

This rich program wouldn’t be complete without equally delicious Jewish traditional food, spiced apple sangria, honey cocktails, and baked goods.
