Dayenu Celebrating Passover @ JCCSF

Join us for DAYENU: a joyful and moving Passover concert that brings the story of the Exodus to life through music. Spanning centuries and styles and blending soulful Yiddish and Sephardic melodies with creative arrangements and newly imagined works, DAYENU takes the Passover story to exciting new places. 

Led by producer and pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg, DAYENU features the cantorial soloist of Congregation Sherith Israel, Simon Barrad and rising star soprano and proud recipient of The Shoshana Foundation’s Richard F. Gold Career Grant, Caroline Corrales. The performance is part of Taste of Talent’s Bay Area concert initiative, JIVE: Jewish Innovative Voices & Experiences.

Opera Aloha returns to Kahilu Theatre for its fourth annual edition, continuing its signature fusion of world-class opera and the diverse musical traditions of Hawaiʻi. Join us for this rare opportunity to experience a concert sung in an extraordinary range of languages including Italian, French, English, Māori, Samoan, Native Hawaiian, Portuguese, Tagalog, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, offering a musical journey you truly will not find anywhere else!

The exceptional cast includes Samoan soprano Aivale Cole, known internationally for both opera and film music; Māori bass Morgan Andrew King, currently based at the Frankfurt Opera; and San Francisco-based tenor Christopher Oglesby, a regular performer with San Francisco Opera and Opera San José. The concert is produced and performed by pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg, whose work across Hawaiʻi has helped shape Opera Aloha into a beloved and distinctive series.

The program features classic operatic arias, duets, and trios by composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, and Charles Gounod, alongside two signature Opera Aloha sets: Taste of Hawaiʻi, a musical tribute to each of the islands, and The Hawaiian Plate, celebrating Hawaiʻi’s multicultural heritage through song.

Intimate, expressive, and joyfully eclectic, Opera Aloha offers a refreshing concert experience that celebrates artistry, culture, and the power of the human voice - where opera meets aloha.

Chamber Music Kauai is thrilled to present Opera Aloha, a concert that blends opera with the diverse musical traditions of Hawaii, presented by global opera talent! Now in its 4th annual tour, Opera Aloha has been joyfully received on Hawaii Island and Oahu, and we are thrilled to welcome this special program to Kauai as part of this year’s tour.

One of the program’s special highlights will be a performance by hula dancer Jelacia Peralta, who will be Kauai’s Miss Aloha Hula contestant at the Merrie Monarch Festival this April!

We have the unique honor and opportunity to collaborate with Kumu Hula and Hawaiian cultural leader Patrick Makuakāne and his hālau, Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu, who bring a powerful visual and cultural dimension to the performance, reflecting the deep storytelling traditions at the heart of Hawaiian music and hula.

In true Death by Aria tradition, step into our haunted house of music, where spellbinding arias, phantoms, and witches summon the night with our superstar cast including
mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz, soprano Maria Valdes, tenor Christopher Oglesby and oboist & tenor Jesse Rex Barrett. For this milestone year, the program plunges into the shadows with music from Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Verdi’s Macbeth, Handel’s Julius Cesar, and Leoncavallo’s tragic I Pagliacci. Journey further into the dark depths of the ocean with music that echoes the menacing power of the sea witch, alongside favorite witch songs and Kurt Weill’s menacing Pirate Jenny. As the ultimate offering, pianist and master of ceremonies Ronny Michael Greenberg offers his arrangement of Purcell’s haunting Dido’s Lament, a song that embodies Death By Aria at its core with the following question: If you knew you were going to die, and had one last chance to sing, what would it be?

Join Grammy Award winning internationally acclaimed countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, baritone and cantor of Sherith Israel Simon Barrad, Elizabeth Castro Greenberg on violin and Ronny Michael Greenberg on piano for Taste of Talent’s season opener A Golden New Year celebrating Rosh Hashanah at the Century Club on Saturday September 20, 7:30pm!

This year’s program offers a fresh new blend of golden songs, uplifting and soulful melodies that echo the call of the shofar, from Yiddish and Sephardic song to traditional Jewish themes, from highlights of Canadian composer Srul Irving Glick’s Suite Hébraïque to Broadway, Handel and Glück opera, Soul, Jazz and genre-defying new arrangements. The evening also features Ronny Michael Greenberg’s premiere of Ladino song "Anyos de Oro", alongside classics like Golden Days, Golden Slumbers, Nature Boy, and Happy Days.
