Taste of México celebrates the musical, visual, and culinary traditions of México through immersive cultural experiences. The series brings together world-class artists to share the depth and beauty of Mexican music and culture in a way that is accessible, meaningful, and engaging for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Rooted in storytelling, each performance features music ranging from mariachi and opera to classical and contemporary Mexican repertoire, highlighting the richness and diversity of México’s artistic heritage.

Taste of México has been presented in a wide range of settings, from major performance venues to intimate salons, across the Bay Area and Northern California. Notable performances include the War Memorial Opera House at San Francisco Opera as part of the San Francisco Opera Guild’s Annual Evening on Stage, appearances in the Eureka Chamber Music Series, and private and salon-style performances throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area. The series has featured acclaimed Mexican and Mexican-American artists, including tenors Moisés Salazar and César Delgado, soprano Marlen Nahhas, baritones Efraín Solís and José Rubio, and violinist Elizabeth Castro Greenberg. Together, these artists bring a wide range of musical voices and perspectives to the series, reflecting both tradition and innovation.

Education and community engagement are an integral part of Taste of México. In 2024, the program launched its first educational outreach initiative with support from the Alameda Arts Commission, bringing live performances and cultural programming to Envision Academy of Arts and Technology in Oakland. Students experienced Mexican musical traditions alongside live art inspired by Día de los Muertos accompanied by horchata and conchas. Taste of México has also engaged with university audiences, including performances and outreach at Cal Poly Humboldt, a Hispanic-Serving Institution, connecting students with professional artists and Mexican musical traditions.

Looking ahead, Taste of México will present a special collaborative performance celebrating Mexican Mother’s Day, hosted at the Consulate General of México in San Francisco in partnership with the The Mexican Museum. This immersive event will weave together live music and visual art exploring the meaning of motherhood in Mexican culture, alongside repertoire from the Taste of México tour that reflects maternal legacy, resilience, and generational storytelling. The program will also feature a new song commission honoring Margarita Maza de Juárez—recognized in Mexico this year for her historical significance—and highlighting the often-overlooked role of women during the era of the Battle of Puebla. While centered on Mexican Mother’s Day, the concert will also serve as a reflective nod to Cinco de Mayo, offering historical and cultural context beyond celebration alone.
